In January of this year, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee joined forces with Heather Harde, former TechCrunch CEO, and Ron Conway, #15 in Forbes Magazine’s Midas List of top investors and considered the Godfather of Silicon Valley (with 220 startups under his belt), in launching San Francisco Citizens Initiative for Technology & Innovation (sf.citi).

The organization is “dedicated to developing and promoting key policy programs aimed at making San Francisco a better and more productive place to live and do business” and is taking part in several initiatives, from creating jobs to educating young San Franciscans and improving access to technology.

Froomz is proud to count itself among sf.citi member companies that are part of the Collaborative Consumption Working Group. Dubbed the “Sharing Economy,” collaborative consumption is an emerging economic model in which access trumps ownership. By enabling owners and managers of galleries, yoga, martial arts studios, cooking and art schools as well as in-house corporate meeting and conference facilities to rent out their spaces during their downtime, Froomz is helping venues find additional sources of revenue.

In addition to the online venue marketplace, Froomz also provides a free alternative to expensive venue management systems that help facility managers automate, organize, and track booking inquiries, room scheduling, and transaction history.

Froomz at Gentry Magazine ReceptionOn Wednesday, May 9th, Gentry Magazine celebrated its first Philanthropy Issue with a reception honoring The Gentry 50 — men and women who continue to make an impact through their charitable contributions and efforts in the community.

Included in the Gentry 50 list are Marc Andreesen (Co-Founder of Netscape), Marc Benioff (CEO of SalesForce), Sergey Brin (Co-Founder of Google), Ron Conway (Angel Investor), Doris Fisher (Founder of the Gap), Jeff Skoll (Former President of e-Bay), and Meg Whitman (President/CEO of HP).

Sponsored by Robert W. Baird, Seton Medical Center, Punta Sayulita, Silicon Valley Bank, Napa Valley Vintners and Tiffany & Co., the event was held at the Fisker-McLaren Showroom, a high-end dealership on the corner of Arastradero Road and El Camino Real in Palo Alto that recently underwent a $4 million facelift. The showroom features a rotating display of Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Indy Race Cars.

On hand for guests to fondle were the Fisker Karma, a luxury hybrid with a $100k price tag, a $4.5 million 1995 cherry red McLaren F1, and McLaren’s latest car, the MP4-12C, comparatively affordable at $250k.

The 300+ guests were treated to live music, wine tasting by Robert Biale Vineyards and Scheiger Vineyards as well as delectable bites from Quattro at the Four Seasons Silicon Valley.

Froomz salutes Gentry Magazine and the long list of philanthropist that continue to support and advocate for the community. As Sloan Citron, Publisher of Gentry, puts it, “Money and resources given away yield pleasure and benefits that can never be taken away. When we do something for someone else, we ensure that the benefit is served, and that the pleasure emanating from that action stays with us for our entire life.”
