On Wednesday, February 27, forty young professionals and small business owners gathered at the conference room of the Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) in Walnut Creek for a workshop on Building Rapport: The Fine Art of Getting Along with People. Organized by the Walnut Creek Young Professionals group and presented by Dale Carnegie Training of the Bay Area (represented by yours truly), attendees discussed human relations principles, discovered the difficulties of seeing things from the other person’s point of view, tested their own listening skills, and learned techniques on how to effectively navigate conversations.
The Walnut Creek Young Professionals Group [WCYP] is the brainchild of Froomz Business Development Consultant, Courtney McQuade, who approached the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau with an idea on how to engage the younger generation.
Founded in September 2012, the WCYP is “a community of professionals between the ages of 21-40 networking with the goal of making meaningful connections, developing in our lives and making a difference in our local community.”
The WCYP Group offers information, resources, and networking opportunities by organizing meet-ups and events that enable members to showcase their businesses and expertise — from personal finance and entrepreneurship to fashion, entertainment and the arts.
Monthly events are held the 4th Wednesday of the month. Future events planned include:
- March: Health and Wellness While Working at Sports Basement
- April: Resume Writing at Sports Basement
- May: Stories of Starting a business – Chamber Members Share
